Release Notes

# 🕶️ Darkelf Shadow CE v7.1.0

**Release:** 7.1.0

**Platform:** macOS ARM64

**Framework:** Qt / PySide6 6.12

**Browser Engine:** Customized QtWebEngine / Chromium

Darkelf Shadow CE 7.1.0 introduces improvements to the macOS browser runtime, QtWebEngine subprocess configuration, application packaging, and release verification.

This release focuses on strengthening the integration between the customized Chromium engine and the native macOS application environment.

✨ What's New

🛡️ Security & Runtime Improvements

Improved Chromium renderer process isolation configuration.

Refined macOS QtWebEngine subprocess initialization.

Updated Nuitka packaging integration.

Improved validation of Chromium runtime security flags.

Maintained compatibility with macOS Hardened Runtime and Developer ID signing.

Expanded pre-release runtime verification.

⚙️ QtWebEngine 6.12 Integration

Continued integration of the customized QtWebEngine 6.12 framework.

Preserved custom engine functionality and privacy-related modifications.

Maintained Chromium-based website rendering and modern JavaScript support.

Improved packaging checks for QtWebEngine resources and helper executables.

🔐 WebAuthn & macOS Authentication

🔐 WebAuthn, Touch ID & Independent Passkey Storage

Maintained native macOS Touch ID authentication through the customized QtWebEngine/Chromium framework.

Verified successful Touch ID passkey authentication with GitHub.

Verified Microsoft passkey registration and subsequent authentication using Darkelf Shadow.

Confirmed persistent, locally registered WebAuthn/FIDO2 credentials across browser sessions.

Maintained a dedicated macOS Keychain access group for Darkelf Shadow passkeys.

Preserved separation between Darkelf's local passkeys and Apple Passwords/iCloud Keychain credentials.

Maintained a browser-profile-specific WebAuthn metadata secret to support local credential management.

Continued support for user-authorized passkey authentication without a Darkelf-operated cloud credential service.

**Passkey Privacy:** Darkelf Shadow manages its own locally registered passkeys through macOS Keychain. Passkeys previously registered through Apple Passwords/iCloud Keychain are not automatically available in Darkelf Shadow and may require separate registration.

**Credential Storage:** Darkelf Shadow does not provide a traditional website password manager. User-authorized WebAuthn passkeys are a separate category of persistent authentication credentials.
