Release Notes

# Darkelf Shadow CE 7.0.27

A macOS interface and window-management update for the 7.x series, building on the existing filtering, privacy and compatibility improvements.

New in 7.0.27 — macOS interface

Replace the gray native title bar with a frameless black main window and custom traffic-light controls.

Green-button **click** toggles fullscreen; **hover** for approximately 1.8 seconds opens a rounded black arrangement panel.

Position the current Shadow window in the left/right half, left/center/right third, or any of four quarters. Maximize/restore is also available. The panel does not tile other applications.

Use separate rounded black panels for Settings and Darkelf Inspector, avoiding conventional dialog-style presentation.

Refine the Appearance page and widen About-page cards and text so they use the floating panel more effectively.

Display **7.0.27** in the About page; keep accent-aware styling for window controls and arrangement choices.

Fix the arrangement callback receiving a Qt `clicked(bool)` argument instead of a callable, and avoid traffic-light stylesheet parsing warnings with custom-painted controls.

The frameless window and tiling features are macOS-specific UI changes. Test dragging, resizing, fullscreen transitions and display arrangements on target Macs before distributing a new DMG.

Earlier 7.x performance and compatibility improvements

Faster filter startup

Reuse fresh downloaded lists and validated merged-filter caches.

Refresh independent lists concurrently while preserving source order.

Match simple rules directly; compile regexes only for complex patterns.

Reuse duplicate patterns during loading and report startup-stage timings.

Developer measurements with approximately 417,000 network rules reduced filter initialization from about **38 seconds to 6 seconds**. This measures filter loading and indexing, not total application startup; results vary by system and cache state.

Filtering and CNN playback

Fixed unsupported `$cookie` rules being treated as request blockers. These rules now skip network evaluation rather than blocking CNN's player configuration and video APIs.

Prevented scriptlet and other unsupported page-action rules from becoming network blockers.

Preserved normal network rules, exceptions, resource-type scopes and supported cosmetic filtering.

**CNN10 playback confirmed working in developer testing** after the parser fix.

Independent Darkelf site boundaries

Replaced the copied Public Suffix List with embedded, independently researched Darkelf rules and source references.

No separate `.dat` file, helper module or suffix download.

Retained cached domain lookup for request classification.

Coverage is curated rather than a complete worldwide suffix list. Unknown namespaces use exact-host comparison, which can increase blocking between related subdomains. Unlisted shared-hosting boundaries remain a coverage gap.

Browser usability and quieter operation

Hide browser controls during website video fullscreen and restore them on exit.

Guard delayed keyboard-filter installation against deleted Qt WebEngine views.

Reduce repeated canvas-mode and readback messages.

Stop automatic MiniAI threat-report printing on shutdown.

Add optional JavaScript warning/error and matched-filter diagnostics through `DARKELF_DIAGNOSTICS=1`; normal launches remain quiet.

Smart Canvas and authentication

Preserve **BLOCKED / PROTECTED / TRUSTED** Smart Canvas modes and temporary session trust for supported human-verification flows.

Retain the custom macOS ARM64 Qt WebEngine **6.11.2**, including native WebAuthn integration, H.264/AVC support, native WebGL modifications and disabled WebRTC.

Apple-specific passkey compatibility remains dependent on signing, keychain entitlements, provisioning and website behavior; this release does not claim to resolve every Apple authentication issue.

H.264 support is separate from DRM support. Widevine is not bundled.

Distribution and verification

**Python/PyPI:** platform PySide6 / Qt WebEngine with an off-the-record profile. Custom macOS engine patches are not included.

**macOS ARM64 DMG:** custom engine with a named authentication profile, memory HTTP cache and nonpersistent cookies. Authentication state and saved files can persist separately.

Release documentation references **7.0.27**; build the corresponding DMG and checksum before publishing. The native release workflow retains Developer ID signing, hardened runtime, notarization, stapling and embedded licensing notices.

Verify the DMG beside its checksum file:

```bash
shasum -a 256 -c Darkelf-Shadow-7.0.27.dmg.sha256
```

Validation

Targeted parser tests reproduced and removed the CNN API false blocks while preserving ordinary blockers and exceptions. Site-boundary and diagnostic on/off checks passed. Updated Python files passed syntax checks and targeted Ruff checks.
